Barely half a mile from the lavish Notre Dame, the iconic cathedral where Napoleon was crowned, there will be white smoke tonight at the Théâtre du Châtelet. The stage is set for the Ballon d’Or ceremony, the most prestigious prize in football, awarded annually by France Football. Starting at 12 p.m. ET, the world’s best players will walk the red carpet before the announcement of a winner unlike any other – Ousmane Dembélé and Lamine Yamal, the two clear frontrunners, are battling for the throne vacated by last year’s winner, Rodri.

France Football has revealed how journalists voted in the battle for the 2024 Men’s Ballon d’Or, which saw Rodri Hernández win the world-player-of-the-year award ahead of Vinícius Júnior. The Manchester City midfielder beat the Real Madrid forward to the prize by a margin of just 41 points, becoming the first Spanish man to receive the Ballon d’Or since Luis Suárez Miramontes in 1960.

Last Monday was a day of many feelings for the Bellingham family. While for Jude (20-years-old) it was a special day as it was the first time he had attended the Ballon d’Or gala, for his parents, Mark and Denise, it was a moment of immense pride and satisfaction. And when their son won the Kopa Trophy for the best u-21 player in the world, even more so.
